2013... onto 2014

Happy New Year!!

45.

I am surprised that I actually read 45 books this year (I thought I read less). 32 Fiction and 13 Non-Fiction (including 2 graphic non-fiction). In 2012, I read 29 books. I am still way behind to my usual 100 books a year. Hey, if I count all the kid books I'd read...

5 Did Not Finish (all fiction).

To be honest, even though I'd marked a few books as 4 Stars or 4.5 Stars, none of them really jumped out to me so much that made me wanted to recommend it to everyone (remember Still Alice? The Help? Human Bobby?)

Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed them, but they were not that life-changing. I suppose the two 4.5 Stars books - my two top rated ones - did have a bit of an impact. But they just didn't make me go wow.

For 2014, I decided that I need to read more books that'd INSPIRE me. Be they fiction or non-fiction. I guess I just didn't quite feel inspired this year. I have already borrowed a bunch of books from the library (oops, I wasn't supposed to!) so hopefully they'd be a good start! And really, I'd just keep on being a mood reader, and pick whatever that strikes my mood.

The book I'm reading right now is The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. I didn't mean to pick this as my first book (I had another book in mind), but this was actually the last book I started in 2013, and hope I'd finish before the new year...

I did manage to blog every book I read in 2013, so I am happy about that! I want to keep this goal in 2014. Hopefully I can be a bit more active in blogging non-book related posts too, but I just feel a bit weird posting more personal stuff here since this is primarily a book blog. And being an introvert, I just didn't think my life is that interesting that others would want to read about it (no twitter here) :p

How about you? Do you have any plans on what you wish to read this year?

By the way, if you have any books that inspire you, I'd love to hear about them. Please! :)

  1. Wow. Much of what you posted here could have been spoken by me! I haven't been wowed by very many books for a couple years now. The ones you mentioned were fabulous! Where are those types of books hiding?! I guess the only way is to keep reading and hope they appear. :)

Happy New Year, Christa. May 2014 bring you lots and lots of fantastic reads!

  2. Wow, no books wow'd you, sigh. And I can't believe the 3 you mentioned were from 2012, lol, time truly does fly by. You read more than me hon, having a new baby is big life changer so I get it.

I will continue to be a mood reader also but I am considering 1 or 2 challenges to get me back into the networking, I missed that last year but just couldn't get with it.

The most inspiring book I read last year was Start Over, it made my top ten, have a read of my review, mainly with quotes.

Now, I look forward to your review of the Husbands Secret, it was a DNF for me but I am still considering trying again, so your review will help me say yes or nay - do you like the pressure i'm putting on you, lol :-)

TW - my blogging email is fine, it was my personal 1 that got hacked in.

    1. Oh good to know about the email. Yeah it seemed like I read those books not too long ago, I guess they have staying power! I'd have to add Start Over ot my list. Still reading Husband's Secret... okay so far but I really should remind myself that this is not really the inspiring reads that I am hoping to read this year lol.

  3. I need to do better on blogging every book I read. Right now, I have a huge backlog that I need to clear. From 2013. At least that gives me a reason to read bigger books this month. Or read less.

    1. Since I read about 50% less than before, that also means blogging 50% less which makes it easier to manage!

  4. I had that same problem - few books that really inspired me. And I find that frustrating bc as book bloggers I feel like we have access to so much information about books - no reason to be reading mediocre ones! Best of luck with your 2014 goals!!

  5. I completely understand what you are saying about blogging about personal stuff. I'm an introvert too and try as I might to add the personal in, I feel like I still fall short. My life really is pretty bland compared to so many others. And all I really know how to blog about is books.

You did an amazing job fitting in the nonfiction with the fiction. I pretty much stuck with comfort reads this past year. I want to try to get more nonfiction reading in this year.

Have a Happy New Year, Christa!
