I admit it... I haven't read all Harry Potter...

I am probably one of the very few people who hadn't read all the Harry Potter books or watched all the HP movies.

I'd read 4 books then stopped... I borrowed them from the library, so by the time the new one came out, I'd forgotten what happened in the previous book(s). After Book 4, I decided not to read them anymore... maybe it's because I was already in college when the first one came out, they just didn't hold my interest as much as other books.

I'd watched the first 2 movies. I think the first one came out as the same time as the Lord of the Rings? I liked the first HP movie fine, but didn't like #2 very much - probably because I was comparing it to the LOTR movies and liked that better. Now that all HP movies is out, maybe I'd like it better if I get to watch all of them close together so I'd remember what happened, since I have a tendency to forget details lol.

So, am I the only one who didn't quite get into the whole HP craze? (or the Twilight craze for that matter lol.)

  2. Couldn't finish the first book of Twilight. Ack. I really enjoyed HP - just the books though. I couldn't get into the movies as much. I'm not one of those who 'grew up' with the HP books and I'm not fanatical about them, but I did stay up reading them right in a row the summer that #4 or 5 came out. And then I eventually finished them when the last book came out. I know what you mean about forgetting the details though!

  3. Aaarghh! I'm clutching my heart in agony. Oh well. I started reading the books from the fourth, maybe that's why it always appealed to me. I guess the first three books are meant for younger audience, so they are harder to get into. But I hope you give them one more chance. Maybe this time they'll work?

  4. Hurrah! I'm not alone! It's one of my guilty secrets that I have never read or watched a single HP book/movie. Not because I dislike them or have objections but because I never got around to it. Too many other things I wanted to read instead...

  5. I'm in the same situation. I read the first four and stopped. Not because I didn't like them but because by the time the 5th came out I figured I would have to reread the first four to remember where I was, and that seemed too daunting, and so it just spiraled out of control. I was just thinking today I should try to do all of them, because I hate to miss out on social phenomena! LOL

  6. I have watched both the 1st movies for HP and T, never Lord of the Rings actually.

And I never had the interest to read any of them, I am happy to miss out on the'hype' :-)

  7. @bailey - oh good! I'm not the only one! :)

@agoodstoppingpoint - I read the first book of Twilight just to see what the fuss was about, then I googled to see what happened in the rest of the series, and that was good enough for me :)

@Aths - I did enjoyed Book 1-4 when I read them. I think I picked up book 5, and couldn't remember all the characters and what happened previously, so I gave up... I think now that all the books are out, maybe I'd give them a try again at some point. I can see why these books are popular though. Also happy for JK Rolwing for her success, and glad that kids think reading is cool now :)

@Kathmeista - I know what you mean! I tend to like adult books better than YA. So unless I really, really want to read them, they just aren't on the top of my list...

@rhapsodyinbooks - yes, daunting is the right word! Totally with you there!

@marce - I haven't watched the Twilight movie... but we did watch the parody "Vampires Suck" and it's pretty funny :) I love the LOTR movies! I couldn't even get through the first page of the book, but the scenery in the movie is breathtaking (the photographer in me speaking :)

  8. I love both series but understand. Maybe you're more of an nonfiction reader at heart.

  9. @Juju - Possibly. I think I am more picky about YA books - they were books I probably would have enjoyed more had I read them younger. I guess I am just NOT young at heart lol :)
