Book Review - The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I was looking forward to this book - there was such a hype on the blogs about this. I should know better since my reading taste seems to be different to the majority of the bloggers. I thought this book would be magical (hey it's about the circus after all!) well, it started off well, and captured my interest, and then it just went on, and on, and on, and on, and on... and a quarter of the way through the almost 400 pages book, and still nothing happened.

Maybe this would work better as a movie, as I'd love to see how Celia did her magic, and what the opening night bonfire looked like. But that'd probably only last just seconds, instead of multiple pages.

If you like descriptive, flowery, wordy story, then go for it. Not for me.

  1. I look forward to trying this one. It seems to be something people either love or hate.

  2. @Juju - yeah it seems like people either love or hate this book! Well okay I don't hate it, but I definitely was not engaged. Would love to see what you think! I knew that this book might not be for me, but I still wanted to give it a try.

    1. I was super excited too since it seems like such a unique premise. I just don't like overly descriptive and slow moving books... I don't have the patience lol.

  4. You're getting more and more ruthless! But why waste many many hours reading something that doesn't engage you?

    1. Yes I am ruthless lol. I did read some reviews to see if the ending was worth waiting for, but a lot of 1-2 stars reviewed mentioned the same issue I had with the book, so I gave up... I have too many other books waiting and only limited time and energy!

  5. I went into this book expecting to hate it, because hype bothers me big time. But surprisingly, this book worked for me. Loved reading your thoughts on this though!

    1. I knew this book was not my genre, but still wanted to check it out in case it worked (there were a few books that surprised me). But I guess it didn't quite work in this case. I didn't regret trying though.

  6. Interesting. I often have the same reaction to those books all the bloggers love - I try them and just don't get it. I think I'll skip this one. Thanks for the review.
